Nov 9, 2022: Quick update!
Hi yall happy Wednesday! Sorry it's been a few weeks but I've got a few minutes so I figured I'd let you guys know what's been happening out here!! For everyone just to remember I'm now in an area called Niterói 2, my comp is Elder Alegría (Alegria is Joy in english haha), and I've been here for about three weeks now!
The ÁREA!
This area in terms of stuff to do is popping. Our area is in the more rural part of the city with lots of hills, trees, beaches and hikes and it is way awesome. We live on the top of a huge hill and from our window you can see the Christ the Redeemer statue, it's a suuuper beautiful view. Especially when the sun's setting, it's way rad. We've got some famous hikes here too and I'm looking forward to one that we're gonna try to do before the end of the transfer. Also we're right next to the city downtown part of Niterói, so we get to see some cool city stuff too.
The WORK
My comp is pretty lit we've been getting along well for sure. The works been starting a bit slower here just cause there are some things to work on in the ward, and when I got here the work was super unorganized and not very unified. With 2 companionships in the same ward, there was almost no communication about the work between the ward or the missionaries. Sooooo we've been working on solving that a lot and I can honestly say that it's been going a lot better this last week. Also we've been able to find some people that have started to pop off and we're really looking forward to the payoff of our work in the future. Also the sisteres in our ward are gonna baptize 5 people this month so that's gonna be a good push for the members to start helping haha.
The DISTRICT
Last week we were supposed to have zone conference but it was canceled at the last minute, so me and my comp scrambled to do a district council to try and make up for it, we made pancakes at lightspeed and brought them to our church. We had a super great district council and now our district has been doing really well. It's way different than my last district, but it's been super cool for sure. Shout out to my friend Elder Mangum who gave the advice that a district leader has to be a little crazy for it to work, so me and my comp have tried it out and it's gone well haha.
FUNNY STORY...
This week we've had some funny things happen with the drug dealers out here in Rio. Last week we were walking and one of them called us over. We explained who we were and so he asked "can go guys say a prayer with the bros?" (Basically along those lines) and we said "of course!" (It's kinda difficult to say no in that situation...) So he asked all his friends to stop the sale of drugs and turned off his police scanner and we said a prayer with them. And then this week we were climbing a hill, and on top we found some guys with the semiautomatics and we explained who we were and they said "oh ya you guys are totally cool to explore the favela, don't even worry about it." So we asked them if they knew where some inactive members lived and they helped us out. Fun stuff this week for sure.
SPIRITUAL THOUGHT
This week we had zone conference, and we talked about how we can feel the spirit! It was cool and I thought a lot about the quote by president Nelson that says
In the coming days it will not be possible to survive spiritual without the constant guiding influence of the holy ghost. We need to start to learn now how we can recognize the influence of the spirit, cause if not, it's gonna be really hard for us in the future! But i know that we can and will be guided by this influence if we work for it! Anyways I love you all and have a great week!
